Here at Combine 9 we are sometimes asked by our customer whether or not they should have us seal the wood on their custom piece of industrial furniture or not. This small detail is completely based off of personal preference, but here is some great information to help you make the decision.
In the above photo, the left side shows an example of unsealed reclaimed wood, while the right side shows an example of the same reclaimed wood sealed. We use a matte sealer, but there is still a very slight sheen. Another thing to keep in mind is, though not drastic, the wood slightly darkens with the sealer. The sealer also adds a slight brown hue. This would be something to keep in mind if you are trying to match the reclaimed wood on your custom piece of industrial furniture to an exact color. However, many of our customers prefer not to have their furniture be an exact match, in which case this wouldn’t be an issue.
The above photos are examples of pieces with unsealed reclaimed wood. As you can see the wood doesn’t have any shine to it. Additional photos of the piece on the left, our Maxwell model, can be found here. Additional photos of the piece on the right, our Cartwright model can be found here. Additional photos of the vintage industrial end table with cross braces can be found here.
The above are just a few examples of pieces which show our sealed wood. Keep in mind that all of our furniture is made to order and any piece can be made with sealed or unsealed reclaimed wood. Additional photos and information for the piece on the left, our modern dining set, can be found here. Additional photos of the piece on the right, our industrial hostess stand, can be found here. Additional photos of our popular Woodrow model, shown in the center photo, can be found here.
Still can’t decide? There’s really no downside to getting the reclaimed wood on your piece of industrial furniture sealed. Besides the slight sheen that some may not be a fan of, it’s a pretty safe bet.
